Summary

Responsible for developing accurate estimates and timely proposals for both private and public sector works projects. Example projects include: significant interstate highway improvements, emergency operations centers, airports, military projects, ports, hospitals/medical centers, schools, stadiums, hotels, laboratories, water/sewer collection, transmission facilities, large administrative spaces, utility upgrades, transportation infrastructure and other custom projects.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Evaluates specifications, starting and completion times, and Construction Material Supply Chain requirements for each phase of construction.
  • Prepares takeoffs using APEX, DODGE, and other CRM software or manually if necessary.
  • Prepares detailed estimates of work to be performed and obtains and analyzes material and subcontractor quotes necessary to complete the estimate.
  • Estimates work via engineer's and architect's drawings or blueprints and historical data to prepare a complete list of all job costs, including labor, material, equipment, and specialty items necessary to complete projects.
  • Maintains subcontractor and supplier database for bidding.
  • Prepares and / or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by job cost reports.
  • Estimator work is generally in the office, but some field coordination is often required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent related work experience.
  • 7+ years of construction project management, estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience; 4+ years estimating experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the capacity to communicate with all levels in the organization, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with inside and outside parties.
  • Knowledge of construction aggregate industry to include asphalt and ready mix operations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment and other software packages relevant to the position.
